Ken Lai

Ken Lai is Alumni of the Advanced Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop run by Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI). The Workshop is deemed “the Harvard of musical theatre” by The New York Times.

BMI is one of the only places in the world where the strict standards of first class musical theatre composition are taught. Only the most talented graduate from the advanced workshop. During his tenure at BMI, Ken’s work was frequently chosen by committee members of BMI for showcase with other upcoming workshop talents including Jeff Marx & Bobby Lopez (Avenue Q).

Other works were featured in Celebration in 2005 and 2006, events which have been televised nationally on the Australian 7 Network, and most recently performed by musical sensation, Marina Prior. His first musical And Can It Be had a successful season in Sydney in 1997.

He has scored several short films including I’m Dirty featured at the Manly Short Black Film Festival, as well as Adam and Love thy Neighbour both of which won awards at the Ignite Film Festival in 2004 and 2005.

From rousing anthems to moving ballads, Ken’s compositions prove to be universally appealing and critically acclaimed.
